Paraty is a town set on the Costa Verde, a green corridor that runs along the coastline of Rio de Janeiro state in Brazil. The town’s historic center is on the National Institute of Historic and Artistic Heritage list. Cars and trucks are banned from its cobblestoned streets except for deliveries on Wednesdays. As a result, horses and carts are a common sight. The architectural beauty of the town is matched by its natural beauty. Paraty is framed by jungle-covered mountains and surrounded by roughly 50 beaches and 65 islands. The safe waters of the bay make it one of the best places in Brazil to go diving. You can also explore the surrounding area through its network of hiking and cycling trails. The city hosts the well-known FLIP International Literary Festival in July.
