Garden Route

South Africa’s famed Garden Route is a 190-mile stretch of coastline that is brimming with natural and cultural attractions. Prepare to be mesmerized by dense forests, scenic lakes, quaint towns and beautiful beaches as you make the journey from Mossel Bay to the mouth of the Storms River. The town of Knysna is one of the route’s culinary highlights, and is particularly known for its annual Oyster Festival, which takes place in June. Enjoy the scenic view as you savor a meal in one of its upmarket restaurants. Wilderness National Park is an amazing place to enjoy a hike or go kayaking, and the area is rich in birdlife as well. Plettenberg Bay is home to some of the best beaches in the region, and you can also head out into the ocean to spot whales and dolphins. Another highlight here is the Elephant Sanctuary, where you see how rescued elephants are cared for and interact ethically with these magnificent animals. The lovely Robberg Nature Reserve is famous for its population of seals and superb hiking trails. Your last stop, Tsitsikamma National Park, is an amazingly dense forest thanks to the high rainfall that the region receives. It is yet another place along the Garden Route where going on a hike is an unforgettable experience.
