Guayaquil, the ‘Pearl of the Pacific’ is Ecuador’s largest city and an important trading center of this small Andean country. The combination of gorgeous colonial heritage and modern architecture provides the city with an eclectic air. A city fond of preserving history with its various museums, you can relish the remarkable collections of pre-Columbian art and curiosities at the MAAC. There is also a curious side to Guayaquil: in amidst the downtown crowds of the Plaza Simon Bolivar where the Cathedral stands you will find iguanas making ample appearances!

Take a short tour of Guayaquil, known as the ‘Pearl of the Pacific’. Wander the city’s cobblestone streets in colorful Las Peñas, explore its many plazas and monuments, stroll through its parks and meander along Malecón 2000– an urban renewal project that edges along the Guayas River. (Approximately 3 hours. if you have a preference for timing, please tell your travel consultant at the time of booking, otherwise our team will schedule the tour at the best available time. Isla Santa Cruz

Located in the center of the archipelago, Santa Cruz is the second-largest island in the Galapagos. The island’s capital, Puerto Ayora, is the largest populated center in the Galapagos and home to the majority of hotels, tourist centers, and also the Charles Darwin Research Station. The island is a large dormant volcano with an amazingly varied climate and landscape from the coastal areas to the central highlands. From Santa Cruz you can witness the famous giant land tortoises, interesting volcanic formations, and even sail to nearby islands to experience up close the rare and famed fauna of the Galapagos such as land and marine iguanas, boobies, and frigate birds.

Experience the emblematic ‘mascot’ of the Galapagos islands on this private guided half-day tour through the verdant highlands of Santa Cruz islands. First visit interesting volcanic formations such as pit-craters and lava tunnels and learn about the island’s endemic forests and unique microclimates. Then be amazed by the giant land tortoises roam free in their natural habitat, observing these gentle creatures from a series of trails through the Primicias ranch area. Full day visit to Bartolome Island

Stand in awe at one of the Galapagos’s most dramatic landscapes from your viewpoint overlooking Bartolome Island. On this full day excursion in a small group, travel from your hotel in Santa Cruz island to Baltra where you then embark on a 3 hour navigation to Bartolome Island. Resplendent with unique volcanic and geological formations are yours to behold after moderate hiking. (7am-3pm, 6 hours total navigation, 2 hours on island, group activity, lunch included, optional snorkel included)

Full day visit to North Seymour Island

Experience the magnificent fauna characteristic to the Galapagos islands by visiting North Seymour Island, home to one of the largest nesting sites for the magnificent Frigate birds. On the two kilometer walking trail, which can be rocky and difficult at times, observe blue-footed boobies, frigate birds, marine iguanas, land iguanas and also the playful sea lions along the coast. (Full-day activity, 45 min transfer to port, 45 min navigation to island, approx 2 hr hiking, group activity, lunch included)

Isla Isabela

The largest of the Galapagos archipelago, this sea-horse shaped island features spectacular volcanic landscapes and is one of the youngest islands being near to the volcanic hot-spot. The islands only populated center is Puerto Villamil, located at the southeastern end and home to all hotels and tourist centers. From Puerto Villamil, visitors to Isabela can enjoy hiking through dense vegetation and over moon-like lava fields as well as a multitude of navigations and snorkeling activities off-shore in the many islets and volcanic formations found in its crystaline coastal waters. The island is home to the highest concentration of free roaming Galapagos giant land tortoises, white-tipped reef sharks, marine iguanas and a multitude of bird life including Darwin’s finches, boobies and penguins to name a few.

Isla Isabela – Sierra Negra and Chico Volcanoes with Lunch

Be amazed by the fiery geological history of the Galapagos Islands as you explore by foot one of its most famous volcanoes. Begin early, hiking through verdant forests gradually climbing the impressive Sierra Negra volcano to reach its rim. Be amazed by the spectacular views of its enormous crater covered in newly hardened lava that delights the eye with its purplish-black color in contrast to the vibrant green of the rim. Walk along the edge of the crater soaking in the views which never cease to amaze. Travel onwards towards ‘volcan chico’ which is an extension of Sierra Negra. Here you will experience an amazing moon-like landscape created by the lava formations and walk right on them. Guests have described the experience as truly unforgettable and one of the highlights of the island. Be sure to bring sun protection and be prepared for difficult hiking on the lava. Visit to Cabo Rosa and Los Tuneles

Arguably one of the most impressive marine sites on Isabela, the tunnels at Cabo Rosa are incredible geological formations created as ocean waves crashed into hot lava flows. The cooled lava formed arches, tunnels, pillars and collapsed tubes that rise out of and under the surface of shallow emerald and turquoise waters of the bay. On this full day tour, navigate in a small boat to the tuneles and have the unforgettable opportunity to snorkel in the clear, calm waters of this marine paradise. Swim with peaceful white tipped reef sharks, manta rays, parrot fish, yellowtailed surgeon fish, marine turtles and the ever-playful sea lions. Should you not want to snorkel, you can view the marine life from the boat and also walk on the surface of the lava formations. (full day, group activity, lunch included, snorkel equipment included)

You can experience the city’s bustling and charming markets too. Quito is one of the highest capitals in the world at 3,000 meters above sea level and so requires altitude acclimatization before you venture out.

Cotopaxi

The Cotopaxi province of Ecuador is home to what German explorer Alexander von Humboldt coined ‘The Avenue of Volcanoes’ and contains some of the most dramatic mountain scenery of the country. The province is named after the stunning Cotopaxi volcano, which was described by Humboldt ‘the most beautiful and regular of all the colossal peaks in the high Andes. It is a perfect cone covered by a thick blanket of snow which shines so brilliantly at sunset it seems detached from the azure of the sky.’ In addition to its scenery, this province features a series of small towns known for their indigenous heritage and colorful markets. The region is also known for its historical haciendas (estates) found in the surrounding hills, where we recommend staying for a truly authentic and unforgettable experience.

Cotopaxi Tour and Hiking

Perhaps the most scenic volcano of the Ecuadorian Andes, Cotopaxi is a sight to behold with its perfect snow-capped cone. On a full day tour, venture into the Cotopaxi National Park which delights visitors with Andean vegetation, rare birds and exceptional views. If feeling up for the challenge, you can endeavour the hike up to the Refuge at 4800m. (Duration 5 hours)
