A short drive north of Cairns is a string of lovely beaches, each with its own special charm. Machans Beach is a modest suburban beach, closest to Cairns and an ideal location for a waterfront walk. Close towards the north is Holloways Beach, in a laidback village with quaint cafes and restaurants. Yorkeys Knob has a gorgeous coastline, perfect for a kitesurfing lesson. Further north, sheltered between two large headlands, is the picturesque and family-friendly Trinity Beach, with walking trails, bars and restaurants along an esplanade. Kewarra Beach and Clifton Beach are laidback favorites with locals.
