Cascais, voted European Youth Capital 2018, once a traditional Portuguese fishing town, is located 38 miles west of Lisbon. This glamorous seaside resort’s harbor has a 125-berth marina where swish yachts share space with colorful fishing boats. Navigate your way through quaint alleys to reach the Church of Our Lady of Assumption. Its nave is filled with gilded woodwork, while the walls are decorated with numerous 17th-century paintings by Josefa d’Obidos. Visit Museu dos Condes de Castro Guimaraes, where you’ll see exhibits of ancient ceramics, silver ewers, samovars, and rare embroidered shawls. King Carlos Museum of the Sea, is devoted to the town’s maritime and fishing heritage.
