The Tokyo National Museum is spread across multiple buildings and houses the largest collection of national treasures and important cultural items in Japan. The National Museum of Western Art was designed by the famous Swiss-French architect Le Corbusier and is a world heritage site. The city is also home to the Tokyo Skytree, the tallest structure in Japan. Head up to the deck for stunning, panoramic views of the city.

Natural Delights of Hakone (From Tokyo)

Discover spectacular natural beauty in the mountainous town of Hakone. Reach Hakone with your guide, and explore the old town – Moto Hakone – along lake Ashi. Taste local delicacies in Ashinoko Chaya, stroll along the cedar tree-lined Kyukaido (Ancient Highway) or visit the Hakone-jinja shrine or the museum – depending on your interests. Relish lunch before you board a cruise boat to sail across the lake. Take in stunning views of the snow-capped Mount Fuji if the weather is clear. Kyoto is arguably the cultural capital of Japan. It was the seat of power and home of the Japanese Emperor from the 6th to the 17th century and was largely spared from destruction during World War II. As a result, the city’s rich heritage remains mostly intact. To walk through Kyoto today is to walk through Japan’s past. It contains 2,000 religious places, including some of the most famous temples in the country. Kiyomizu-dera is a wooden temple set on a mountainside that offers fantastic views, while Ryōan-ji is renowned for its zen rock garden. Add in numerous palaces and gardens and Kyoto is home to an astonishing number of Japan’s National Treasures and Important Cultural Properties. Seventeen of these are also UNESCO World Heritage sites, including the Kyoto Imperial Palace and the Kyoto Tower. The latter is the tallest building in the city and a rare modern landmark. Kurama – Kibune Hiking Tour

Wake up early and enjoy a peaceful hike through the Kitayama mountains in northern Kyoto. Arriving at Kurama, pass by a bright red statue of Tengu, and the two small waterfalls nearby. Ascend the beautiful, forested staircase trail flanked by vermillion-colored lamp posts. Expect to see numerous shrines, paper lanterns, statues of mythical figures, and a couple of conceptual installations along the way. After entering the wooden gate of Yuki-jinja shrine, encounter a lofty pine tree, make a wish at the main hall, and continue further. Take a breather at the plaza in front of Kurama-dera temple. Minutes later, you’ll walk past a bell tower and a museum before reaching the summit. After a short break, head further downhill on a trail covered in tree roots. As you traverse the atmospheric trail, occasionally spot deer amid the cedar trees. Reaching the bottom of the hill, cross a small bridge over Kibune-gawa river and explore the quaint village of Kibune. Okayama

Kanazawa is perhaps best known for its 17th century castle garden Kenroku-en. It is equally well known as the neighbor of the quintessential Japanese feudal fortress, Kanazawa Castle. A serious rival of Kyoto, this historical outlier has only recently re-emerged on the intrepid traveler’s map, as Kanazawa is now connected to Tokyo by Japan’s network of high-speed railway lineas (Shinkansen). Japan was incredible. Experiencing Tokyo and Kyoto was a great balance that showcased the true beauty of this country and its culture. My itinerary had great structure and I never had a worry. We are truly grateful to have come across Enchanting Travels. After my husband and I tried to plan our trip ourselves…we made the right choice paying for the package we did. It was truly a wonderful experience being able to not worry about transportation and having guides (Keiko & Taku were AMAZING) teach us about the culture, history, and much more.
