Stockholm

Built across 14 islands where Lake Malaren meets the Baltic Sea, Stockholm has served as Sweden’s capital since the 13th century. The city, with its gorgeous landscape and waterfront promenades, features a contrasting skyline of royal monuments and contemporary design.

Gamla Stan, the old town, anchors the city’s historic core. Its narrow streets are lined with amber and ochre facades, leading to the Royal Palace, one of Europe’s largest working royal residences. Across the water, the Vasa Museum preserves a 17th-century warship salvaged intact from the harbor floor. Summer stretches the day to nearly 18 hours of light, leaving time to board a ferry and trace the Stockholm Archipelago, where you will see forested islands and open water in every direction.

Back in the city, ABBA The Museum captures a defining chapter of Swedish pop culture, while the neighborhoods surrounding it pulse with Nordic fashion and design. There is also the famed Nobel Prize Museum, and the 68 miles of the subway network that showcases art and sculptures making it the ‘World’s longest art exhibit’.

Copenhagen

Straddling the eastern coast of the island of Zealand, Copenhagen stands as Denmark’s capital and the cultural, political and economic heart of the region. The city carries centuries of royal heritage — from the 17th-century Rosenborg Castle, where the Danish crown jewels rest beneath vaulted ceilings, to the commanding Christiansborg Palace, which houses the Danish Parliament on foundations laid in the 12th century. There is also the waterfront district of Nyhavn, lined with painted merchant townhouses dating to the 1670s.

The city has built a global reputation as a world capital of design and architecture, threading that sensibility into everything from its restaurants to its urban infrastructure. Dedicated cycling highways carry locals and visitors alike through a compact, walkable center. The New Nordic culinary movement took root here as well, and its Michelin-recognized dining rooms are not to be missed

The Christianshavn canals offer a quieter counterpoint to the energy of the center, where narrow boats drift past low-roofed buildings and waterside cafes. Tivoli Gardens, a historic amusement park, has drawn visitors since 1843. Copenhagen is also where you can experience the quintessential Danish feeling of ‘hygge’, allowing you to immerse yourself in peace, comfort and coziness.

Oslo

Oslo is the capital of Norway and the green capital of Europe. With an urban skyline of marvelous modern architecture, numerous public parks and open green spaces, the city is a traveler’s delight. Sitting at the head of the Oslofjord, with the snowy slopes and alpine forests of Nordmarka looming in the background, Oslo offers picture-perfect visuals of northern waterways, arctic islands, and snowcapped mountains. Apart from being a winter sports paradise, Oslo is the city of Edvard Munch and Henrik Ibsen, making it a haven for art and culture lovers. The city is dotted with numerous museums, art galleries and parks, with the main highlight being the popular Vigeland Park and museum with Vigeland’s sculpture. The waterfront fort and former prison of Akershus Fortress are worth a visit, as is the Viking Ship Museum with its display of 9th century Viking longboats. The official residence of the Norwegian royal family is open to the public in the summers. Not surprisingly, Oslo also has an electric nightlife. Neighborhood cafes and trendy eateries serve delicious fusion food that marries traditional Nordic cuisine with global favorites. Enjoy your sushi along with a platter of polse (local hot dogs) and a jug of local beer.

Day 8 – 9

Board your VY Plus Class + Flamsbana Train from Oslo to Flam (Duration: 6hrs, First Class)

1 Night

Flam

At the innermost reach of the Aurlandsfjord in western Norway, Flam sits where still water meets sheer rock, surrounded by the mountains. The village has long served as a transit point between Norway’s coastal fjords and its interior highlands.

The UNESCO-listed Nærøyfjord extends from here in narrow, cathedral-like proportions, its walls rising hundreds of meters above the water. Electric fjord cruises move quietly through that corridor, close enough to the rock face to hear waterfalls before they come into view. The Rjoandefossen cascade drops dramatically near the valley floor, and the Stegastein viewpoint platform extends over the fjord at a sharp angle, offering an unobstructed view of the landscape below.

The Flam Railway, one of the steepest standard-gauge rail lines in the world, climbs nearly 900 meters through 20 kilometers of tunnels, bridges and open mountain terrain before reaching Myrdal. The Flam Railway Museum traces the engineering history of that climb. And for some local flavors, the Aegir Brewpub allows you to sample Nordic craft beers.

Day 9 – 11

Board your Flamsbana Train + VY Plus Class from Flam to Bergen (Duration: 3.5hrs, First Class)

2 Nights

Bergen

Framed by seven mountains and opening onto the dramatic coastal inlets of western Norway, Bergen is the country’s gateway to the fjords. This was once the largest city in Scandinavia and a dominant force in the medieval Hanseatic trading network.
Nowhere is that history more tangible than along Bryggen, the UNESCO World Heritage-listed wharf where centuries-old timber warehouses stand above the harbor. Salt air drifts off the water as vendors at the Bergen Fish Market arrange the morning’s catch. The city is built to be explored on foot, with winding lanes threading between wooden houses.
Ride the Fløibanen Funicular to the summit of Mount Fløyen and the city fans out below, a dense cluster of rooftops pressed between mountain and sea. The Mount Ulriken Cable Car offers an even higher vantage point, with the Sognefjord and Hardangerfjord stretching toward the horizon. Bergen receives frequent rainfall year-round, so pack your rain gear before heading out.
