Delphi offers a historical site steeped in myths and legends as well as a cliffside modern town located in Central Greece. Considered the center of the earth in Greek history, Delphi overlooks a lush valley at the foot of Mount Parnassos and affords fantastic views of the Gulf of Corinth. The ancient ruins feature the Sanctuary of Athena Pronaia built as a gateway to Delphi, the gymnasium, and the sacred Castalian Spring. Past the Sacred Way lies the main Temple of Apollo, once home to Delphi’s renowned oracle. An expansive amphitheater and the stadium where Pythian Games were held, are situated further up the hillslope. The museum here offers more insight into the prized findings of Delphi. Explore the dramatic landscape as you hike up ancient trails especially to the Corycian Cave, or paraglide over acres of olive groves. About fifteen minutes away en route to Athens, the mountain town of Arachova transforms into a ski destination every winter.
