Rose Gums Wilderness Retreat straddles the UNESCO World Heritage Wooroonooran National Park on the coastal Atherton Tablelands.
Atherton & Atherton Tablelands is a traveler’s delight for its varied topography as well as protected wildlife. Made up of grasslands, rainforests and wetlands, it is home to animals such as wallabies and tree kangaroos as well as birds like sarus cranes and bush stone curlews. Drive through the Waterfalls Circuit known for its spectacular cascades such as Millaa Millaa Falls or stop by the striking Mount Hypipamee Crater and the Curtain Fig Tree. Named after the 19th century pioneer John Atherton, the tablelands are a treasure trove of breathtaking natural features and cultural sites such as the Mareeba Heritage Museum as well as the Historic Village of Herberton that details the mining heritage of the Tablelands.
