Alta Floresta lies in northern Mato Grosso, along the fringes of the Amazon rainforest. An erstwhile hub of gold mining, it is now known for its many ecotourism initiatives. This biodiverse region is within easy reach of the Pantanal wetlands, and is well-connected to the rest of the country by air, road and water. Located at the confluence of the tropical Amazonia with the Cerrado savanna, the scenic vistas here are truly photo worthy. A nature and animal lovers paradise, the area is filled with numerous species of wildlife including the capybara and tapir. The ancient trees are home to primates and about 400 bird species such as macaws, parrots and toucans.
