Medellín in Colombia is that rare combination where nature and nurture comes together with spectacular commercial success. It is defined by its verdant hills and mild temperate climate on the one hand, and towering steel and glass skyscrapers on the other! Medellín is the second largest city in Colombia, and an important industrial center, especially for the textiles and floriculture industries. You would be mistaken to assume, however, that the city is all about commerce and little else—for Medellín nurtures a hip and happening nightlife. It also nurtures the arts in an equally flamboyant manner with public art installations and sculptures of celebrated Colombian artists like Fernando Botero, whose works are also showcased in the Museo de Antioquia. Of equal importance in Medellín, is the famous annual Flower Festival.
