Language and religion
Portuguese is the official language although there are several local African languages spoken. It is important to highlight that only few drivers, guides and staff members in the lodges have good command over English. This is especially the case in Northern Mozambique.
More than half of the population practice Christianity. Muslims take up about 18% of the population while other religions take up about 7%, and those who belong to none about 18%.

Health information
Visitors to Mozambique arriving from any country with risk of yellow fever need to have proof of yellow fever vaccination. Yellow fever vaccination must be obtained at least ten days before your trip. If you are traveling directly from Europe or the Middle East to East Africa and you do not pass through any country with risk of yellow fever, you do not require a yellow fever vaccination.
Anti-Malaria prophylactics are strongly recommended as many areas in Southern Africa are prone to malaria.
In remote areas, camps are not able to evacuate guests after dark. In case of an emergency, you will be brought to the nearest suitable facility until they can be flown out for medical treatment. Make sure that you know your blood group, especially in case of an emergency.

Currency
US Dollar is the most accepted currency in Mozambique. However, it is important to carry local currency preferably in smaller denominations during your trip, for small payments, tips, etc. Most African countries only accept USD notes printed from 2013 onwards.
International credit cards, mainly VISA and MasterCard, are universally accepted in upmarket lodges, hotels, and some larger retailers in towns. Some lodges and hotels apply a surcharge for credit card payments.
