Nature and history on your Croatia & Slovenia tour
When it comes to things to do in Croatia and Slovenia, there’s plenty to see and enjoy beyond their beautiful Mediterranean coastlines.
While Croatia has been drawing in visitors with its idyllic islands and magnificent Medieval towns for decades, Slovenia has only recently come under the radar as a must-see European destination. The two neighboring countries are both packed with amazing natural and historic attractions to fill your days with.
To give you some inspiration for your vacation, we’ve outlined some of the best things to do in Croatia and Slovenia.

1 Explore the Picturesque Plitvice Lakes National Park
Visiting Plitvice Lakes National Park is definitely one of the top things to do in Croatia. The 115 square mile nature reserve was granted UNESCO World Heritage status in 1979 and will absolutely thrill nature lovers. The best way to soak up its lush landscapes, glistening waterfalls and jewel-hued lakes is on a guided walking tour, especially during the spring and summer months.

2 Admire all Seven Waterfalls in Krka National Park
If you can’t get enough of the great outdoors, Krka National Park is another gorgeous spot. It’s found just an hour from Split and is famed for its seven stunning waterfalls. You’ll be able to fit in all of these tumbling cascades during a riverboat tour, plus there are also several spots along the water where swimming is allowed.

3 Marvel at Game of Thrones Backdrops in Dubrovnik
Fans of the HBO TV series Game of Thrones will no doubt recognize the glorious coastal city of Dubrovnik from their screens. Taking a tour of its ancient walls and pretty harbor is one of our top things to do in Croatia and Slovenia. The entire city dates back to the 16th century and has been incredibly well-preserved, with other major highlights including the Gothic Rector’s Palace and the Baroque Church of St Blaise.

4 Visit the Supposed Birthplace of Marco Polo at Korcula Island
Take a trip to Korcula, an island off Croatia’s Dalmatian coast that’s scattered with vibrant vineyards and enchanting forests. It’s also reputed to be the birthplace of Marco Polo, one of the first Europeans to travel the Silk Road to China. Visit the house in Korcula Town where he was supposedly born and then head down the coast to Pupnatska Luka, a tranquil bay that’s perfect for a leisurely swim.

5 Sail Around the Kornati Islands
A string of over 140 islands make up Kornati National Park, a remote coastal region in northern Dalmatia. Set out on a sailing tour to soak up amazing vistas of these uninhabited islets and their crystal-clear waters. You’ll also spot old stone cottages on some of them which often host pop-up restaurants and guest houses for those who’d like to sleep on their very own island.

6 Indulge Your Taste Buds in Istria Wine Country and Sample Croatia’s ‘Slow Food’ Culture
Croatia has an impressive history of wine growing and there’s no better place to sample some of its local bottles than Istria. The coastal peninsula stretches across Croatia, Slovenia and Italy, and its fertile soils have been producing award-winning wines for decades. Embark on a tour of the entire region or visit a vineyard handpicked by an expert for a tasting session.
If you’re unfamiliar with Croatian cuisine, prepare yourself to be blown away by flavorsome, seasonal dishes like rich seafood stews and fragrant risottos. The country is particularly known for its slow food culture which sees restaurants serving up feasts made from fresh, local and often specialist ingredients. Enjoy decadent and delicious meals at a relaxed pace, paired with Croatian wines.

7 Spend a day in Triglav National Park
Triglav National Park is Slovenia’s only protected nature reserve and it’s unmissable if you love untouched countrysides and fresh mountain air. The park is made up of lush alpine valleys, several small lakes and numerous dramatic peaks, including its namesake Triglav Mountain which soars up to over 2743 meters (9,000 feet). Other major highlights include the vast Lake Bohinj, the Soča Valley and the Vintgar Gorge.

8 Relax on the Idyllic Shores of Lake Bled
Perhaps the most famous sight in Slovenia is the island found at the heart of Lake Bled. The glacial lake is in the north west of the country and completely enveloped by the spectacular Julian Alps. It’s a hotspot for hiking, plus you’ll find two heritage sites within its vicinity – the medieval Bled Castle on the lake’s shores and the Pilgrimage Church of the Assumption of Maria on Bled Island. You can reach the latter on a traditional pletna boat and walk up its 90+ steps for stunning views.

9 Take a Tour of the Goriška Brda Wine Region
Slovenia’s wine growing area, Goriška Brda, is nestled right on the Italian border and made up of rolling hills dotted with sleepy villages and lush vineyards. Begin your wine tour in its municipal town of Dobrovo. It’s home to the Goriška Brda Wine Cellar where you can have a lesson in local winemaking techniques and enjoy delicious tastings.

10 Go Underground to see the Postojna Caves & Predjama Castle
Nestled away in Slovenia’s southerly Karst Region, the Postojna Caves stretch over 15 miles and are packed with fascinating rock formations, including a five meter(16 feet) high white stalagmite. Animal lovers will want to stop off at the caves’ vivarium to view olms – rare aquatic salamanders which can live for up to 100 years. Budding historians may also enjoy exploring the magnificent Predjama Castle that’s built into the side of a cave a miles northwest of Postojna.

“A three-week trip to various parts of the UK seemed too much for us to plan and execute, so I was glad when a friend told me about her magical UK trip. She had relied on the expertise of Cherisse Liptzin and ET. From the first meeting, we were impressed. Cherisse asked great questions to figure out our expectations, preferences, and wishes. She offered suggestions based on her time traveling throughout the UK. She was flexible when we made changes to our initial plan and when we added further edits and additional days. Her guidance was superb! Then, she handed us over to our trip coordinator, Namrata Gupta who worked with us before and throughout our time in the UK. Namrata, in her intro message, assured us that we wouldn’t need to worry about a thing – that she would take care of everything. That big promise was proven to be 100% genuine and true. We had several unforeseen issues arise, and she helped us resolve everything. We didn’t miss a bit of the fun and enjoyment of the trip thanks to this dear, responsive, smart trip coordinator who answered the call, going above and beyond every time we needed her help. ET has a process that ensures your travel will be enjoyable, safe, and easy. We give them our highest recommendation. In fact, we’re already planning our next journeys with their wise guidance and help. We’re thrilled to travel with ET!”

“Enchanting Travels made planning my trip to Ireland very easy and stress free. The experience with Enchanting Travels and finally getting to visit Ireland was a dream come true. I am so glad I did it! I had to go to Ireland by myself, but I didn’t feel like I was alone. My travel guide checked in with me everyday to make sure things were going well. I had my personal chauffeur/tour guide who was with me at least 8 hours a day so I wasn’t completely by myself. I felt very safe and well taken care of. Don’t hesitate to use Enchanting Travels for your next trip. They are the best!”

“This was our first start to finish planned tour by an agency like Enchanting Travel. We opted to go with them rather than a Duro Valley boat cruise and are so glad be did. The breadth of experiences in 10 days was simply excellent – we feel we now know so much more about Portugal’s rich history and fantastic tourism offerings.”

“Lauren Bukowski tailored the Italian trip spot on for our small travel group of 4. She listened well to our goals of the trip and was able to provide excellent accommodations in Rome and Florence, with well curated tours of Rome such as the Roman ruins, Vatican and Panthenon.. Florence was equally done very well with trips to Chianti region, Cinque Terre and the museums in Florence. In addition to the delightful trip the travel connections were seamless. This was certainly appreciated. We would definitely use Lauren and Enchanting Travels again. Thanks for the wonderful trip to Italy 🇮🇹 Sheila, Carol, Carolyn and Brent”
