As the largest city of East Africa, you can experience contemporary urban African life in Nairobi with colorful street markets, authentic African cuisine, and a buzzing nightlife. Discover the National Museum or explore Kenya’s historic roots with a visit to the Karen Blixen Museum. Feed giraffes in the Giraffe Center or get very close to baby elephants and cheetah in the David Sheldrick Center and animal orphanage. On Nairobi’s doorstep, enjoy afternoon walks and spectacular sundowners in the Ngong Hills, or head to Nairobi National Park for the the only place in the world to witness wild lions against the backdrop of skyscrapers.

Drive to Laikipia Ol Pejeta/Solio (4-5 hrs)

Laikipia – Ol Pejeta/Solio

Ol Pejeta is a private wildlife conservancy, situated between the foothills of the Aberdares and the magnificent snow-capped Mount Kenya, and has one of the highest density of wildlife in Kenya and boasts an astounding variety of animals, including the “Big Five“. It offers very diverse safari activities, with day and night game drives, guided bush walks and camel riding safaris across its game-rich plains. The neighboring chimpanzee sanctuary is worth a visit for those who have an interest in our closest relatives. Ol Pejeta is also a good base for exploring the Aberdares, Mt Kenya and Solio Game Reserve. Solio is a private wildlife conservancy, situated between the foothills of the Aberdares and the magnificent snow-capped Mount Kenya, and home to over 70 Black and more than 150 White Rhino, as well as buffalo, zebra, giraffe and plains game such as Eland, Oryx, impala, waterbuck, gazelle and warthog.

Experience stunning wildlife sightings against the evocative backdrop of Africa’s Great Rift Valley on game drives in Kenya’s Central Highlands. The breathtaking vistas of the Ol Pejeta conservancy is set amid the Aberdares foothills at one end and Mount Kenya on the other. It is extremely rich in large and small game as well as exotic birds, including the Big 5. Expect to spot endangered rhinos, Savanna elephants, lions, buffalo, endangered chimpanzees, zebra, giraffes, gnus, ostrich, ibis, pelicans, eagles and many more on thrilling game drives! The best time for game drives is in the early mornings when the animals are particularly active and in the late afternoons when the sun paints incredible colors across the horizon. If staying overnight inside the conservancy, you also have the opportunity for exciting night drives to observe rarely spotted nocturnal wildlife.

Ol Pejeta Bush Camp: Morning & Evening game drives

Experience the thrill of getting up-close with nature and wildlife. Visit the Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary to catch these highly endangered mammals thrive in their local habitat. Located on the river’s banks, explore Zambezi National Park; Matetsi, home to elephant, buffalo, lion, leopard, giraffe and zebra, hippo, crocodile and iridescent birds such as bee-eaters, storks, herons, kingfisher and, fish eagles.

Sundowner Cruise in Victoria Falls

Embark on a gentle cruise on the mighty Zambezi River that combines the excitement of game viewing with the relaxation of awe-inspiring beauty. Spot crocodiles, hippos, or even buffaloes on the riverside. With the boat anchored near the Ellie Corner, you can enjoy the sight of large herds of elephants as they come for a bath or a drink, or simply to take a lazy roll in the riverbed nearby. The sunset cruise also affords you a great opportunity to spot other games such as baboons, impalas, and warthogs.

Elephant Interaction & Dinner at Elephant Café

Enjoy a fine dining experience at Elephant Café, near Victoria Falls, and interact with rescued pachyderms during this unique experience. Set off on a 30-minute cruise from the David Livingstone Safari Lodge & Spa. As you travel up the Zambezi river, you may be able to spot wildlife as you cross Zimbabwe, with its national parks, and Zambia. Hold on to your seat as the boat negotiates multiple rapids and shallow basalt rock channels, while avoiding hippos and crocodiles. Once you arrive, meet the elephants from the nearby sanctuary. Many have been hand-reared, and while the older ones have been rescued from droughts and culling exercises, the younger ones came from the wild or have been born into the herd. Learn more about these gentle giants and feed and play with them. Once the herd retires to the bush, head to the Elephant Café for a memorable dining experience while overlooking the magnificent Zambezi River. Sit in the tented café area and feast on gourmet bush dishes that are prepared using seasonal, fresh ingredients, including wild edibles.
