More than just beautiful beaches! Mombasa was a very influential port in the 15th century and played a significant role in laying the foundations of today’s Kenya. Explore the Old Town by foot, boasting Arabian influence, ancient buildings, extravagant art designs and shops. Along the coast, Fort Jesus is a monumental piece of Portuguese architecture built in the 16th century. The fort has a museum that displays various artifacts from an era when Mombasa served the slave and commodities trade, and comprises of torture rooms and prison cells where slaves were kept in captivity before being traded.
