Udawalawe Safari
Udawalawe National Park lies southeast of Colombo and rests at the feet of Sri Lanka’s Hill Country. The park’s landscape is similar to the African savannah, with only a light vegetation of grasslands and thorn scrubs. While there is some jungle and riverine forest, very little hampers your wildlife viewing, which includes water monitor lizards, sambar deer, monkey, and the odd covert leopard. If you wish to spend time observing wild Asian elephants, then this is an ideal habitat to explore – which is why so many guests visit Udawalawe. There are believed to be 250 wild elephants who have made Udawalawe their home, with a further 200 who roam around. If you are lucky, you might spot a herd of over 100 elephants, which is an incredible sight.
