Palopo Tours

Palopo or Kota Palopo is the gateway to the Indonesian highlands of Tana Toraja. This South Sulawesi port town is marked by its location between the Wallacea mountains and the Gulf of Bone. Apart from simply acting as the entry to the Toraja highlands, Palopo offers travelers a bit of Islamic history to explore as well. It is home to the 17th century Old Palopo Mosque (or Mesjid Jami), South Sulawesi’s oldest mosque, built along a syncretic style with Javanese, Hindu and Islamic elements woven together in white coral. The royal cemetery is also located nearby, with pyramidal burial sites of the Luwu rulers from the 17th to 20th centuries.
