Kigoma Trips

Visit the only Tanzanian port on Lake Tanganyika! Kigoma, surrounded by rugged mountains and forests, overlooks Lake Tanganyika on the eastern side. Once a major trading base, Kigoma is the last stop for the railway line in western Tanzania and has a stately railway station. Kaiser House, the seat of government, and other buildings scattered around Kigoma remind you of its German colonial history. The steamer Liemba, originally built in Germany in 1913 and considered the oldest operational passenger vessel in the world, is worth a visit. Kigomo is a great base for chimpanzee safaris and visits to the Gombe Stream and Mahale National Parks.
