Tomohon is a volcanic highland destination of North Sulawesi, fringed by forested hills and a plethora of flowers and fresh produce. Located on the Asia Pacific Ring of Fire, it lies in between the two active volcanoes of Mount Lokon and Mount Mahawu. Its pleasantly cool climate, along with the hot springs and mud pools typical of a volcanic landscape, make it a magnet for weekend travelers from nearby Manado. Tomohon also offers numerous bird watching, biking and hiking trails for nature and adventure seekers. Culture seekers, meanwhile, often explore the surrounding Minahasa region by using Tomohon as a travel base. Tomohon is also famous for yet another aspect – its exotic weekend markets including the Minahasa market where nearly anything other than humans is available for purchase – definitely not for the faint-hearted!
