See a stellar example of African wildlife preservation! Intensively protected, Majete Wildlife Reserve in southern Malawi has seen a steady reintroduction of wildlife since 2003. The vegetation in this rugged, hilly bush of the Lower Shire Valley is diverse, ranging from dry savannas and thickets along the riverbanks on the eastern side to miombo forests in the hilly west. As part of an intensive program to prevent poaching and create a functioning ecosystem, more than 2550 animals were reintroduced into Majete, including elephants, black rhinos, buffalos, elands, waterbucks, impalas and zebras, based on historic records of their occurrence in the area.
