Arrive in Reykjavik: Begin your Arctic expedition from Reykjavik, the coastal capital of Iceland. Meet your guide and board a private charter flight to reach Narsarsuaq in Greenland. Nestled amid the historic Tunulliarfik Fjord, this quaint village serves as a fantastic gateway to enjoy the natural wonders of Southern Greenland. The region’s highlights include hiking trails through Arctic forests and the Norse archaeological sites. Board your cruise, the Ultramarine, and settle in for an exciting adventure ahead.

Group Greenland Adventure: Explore by Sea, Land and Air (Days 2 – 7)
South Greenland: Over the course of the next six days, soak up the wonderful wilderness of South Greenland, also nicknamed ‘Arctic Patagonia’. Explore the sheltered pristine fjords, flanked by rugged snow-capped peaks, and ice-covered coastlines that embrace verdant valleys adorned with blooms. Rich in natural beauty, South Greenland is a haven for anyone who loves the outdoors. Your expedition team offers up a wonderful variety of recreational activities multiple times each day, all customized to your interests and skill levels. Join small groups for heli-hiking experiences in hard-to-reach places, and kayaking excursions on calm bays. Fly over the Greenland ice sheet. Take in aerial views of the world’s second-largest ice mass, as onboard glaciologists share facts about this delicate and dynamic environment. Every day, hop on zodiacs and cruise along shallow inlets, and enjoy regular shore landings. Listen to interpretive commentary about native wildlife and cultural anecdotes. Gather for daily presentations onboard that allow interactions with resident historians and scientists, so you can understand this polar landscape better. Brace yourself for a polar plunge into the refreshing Arctic waters, a rite of passage on this expedition! If you’re feeling more adventurous, Ultramarine’s twin-engine helicopters can take you to remote spots for optional activities (at additional costs). Accompanied by expert guides, enjoy alpine kayaking on isolated glacial lakes amid tranquil surroundings. Sign up for heli-mountain biking excursions on scenic alpine trails, ideal for seasoned riders. You can also spend a night at the exclusive Tasermiut Camp, where local hosts showcase their spectacular surroundings and distinct regional lifestyles. From walking across picturesque landscapes, foraging through tundra forests, and hopefully witnessing a polar twilight, there’s plenty to keep you occupied during this overnight activity. Between daily explorations, take time to enjoy the host of facilities onboard Ultramarine. Documenting your Arctic voyage is the best part, so be sure to take plenty of advice from the resident photography expert.

Greenland Adventure: Explore by Sea, Land and Air (Day 8)
Disembark in Kangerlussuaq and Fly to Reykjavik: Upon arrival in Narsarsuaq, take time to explore the spectacular arctic surroundings before your departure. Further south, Igaliku is a scenic settlement featuring sheep farms, and is highlighted by the Gardar archaeological complex of Norse ruins. You can see an Episcopal residence, a centuries-old irrigation system, a Bishop’s farm, and the Saint Nicholas Cathedral, among other attractions. Next, learn about Norwegian Viking explorer Erik the Red, who founded Greenland’s first Norse settlement. Browse through the remains of his former estate in Brattahlio, now known as Qassiarsuk. Historical buildings here include a replica of a Norse longhouse and Thodhilde’s Christian church, all surrounded by modern farms. By early evening, board your charter flight back to Reykjavik. Check into your accommodation either at Hotel Keflavik or Keiler Hotel in Keflavik nearby.
