Just outside of Potosi and at a slightly lower elevation lies the charming Museo Cayara hotel. The hacienda style property is a monument to Bolivian history, the building dating back to the 16th century when it served as a seat to Spanish colonial masters monitoring the silver mining. The huge mansion with its two libraries, which house an extensive collection of old documents and books, the priceless paintings and furniture are a living invitation for the visitor to travel back in time all while enjoying a cozy and comfortable stay in the treasure chest of Bolivia.
This hotel was a highlight of the trip! Wonderful historic hacienda. Room was comfortable, with historic accents, overlooking a delightful courtyard. The dining room & common areas were filled with antiques, paintings & photographs; the courtyards filled with flowers. Very interesting tour of the hacienda, excellent displays.
