Chale Island is a tropical haven located on the pristine Msambweni Bay just off Kenya’s southeastern coast. Discover a breathtakingly idyllic retreat accessible only by speedboat or a tractor-trailer depending on the tide. The picturesque island is dotted with inland tidal lakes and mangrove forests, including a kaya (sacred grove) of the Mijikenda peoples. Gorgeous white sand beaches and dramatic rocky shores make up the island’s periphery. Chale Island is fringed by vibrant coral reefs abundant with myriad marine life. Occasionally, sea turtles inhabit the island to lay eggs.

Hatchlings emerging from their sandy nests is a momentous sight. Swim and snorkel in the adjoining long canal, a natural aquarium. The island is also home to primates such as Colobus monkeys and baboons that you’ll find romping around trees or crossing over to the mainland during low tide. Ideal for a family adventure or a romantic getaway, Chale is the ideal place to unwind before or after your safari.
