Nyiragongo in Rwanda

Mount Nyiragongo is a volcanic mountain with the largest crater lake in the world. It is located within the Virunga National Park, in the Democratic Republic of Congo, just across the border with Rwanda, and only three hours’ drive from Kigali International Airport. It is famous for persistent volcanic activity with wildly churning lava. Hike to the peak of Nyiragongo, through lush rainforests, spotting colobus monkeys, baboons, chimps and smaller game. Trained hiking guides and hired porters make the climb even more pleasurable. The peak ushers you to scenic views of the town and game park below giving greater opportunities for rare photography. Camp overnight at the mountain peak, in camps cradled between volcanic rocks, cliffs and soft undergrowth. While at Nyiragongo, an adventurous Gorilla Trek gives the marvel of the tenderness of the males, the maternal care of the females and the ever playful young ones.
